The Tooth Fairy

Early last week we noticed Big Sister had a new tooth growing in her mouth. Behind her lower central incisor on the right side. That's right, a permanent tooth was on it's way!
We prepared Big Sis by telling her that pretty soon she would get a big lady tooth; a tooth she would still have when she is a grown-up and mommy. We told her the little wiggly tooth would fall out soon, that it should not hurt, but it may bleed a little, and that we will put her baby tooth in her baby book and save it. She seemed a little nervous that the blood might taste bad, but was excited overall.
On Monday, Hubby picked Big Sis up from preschool right after lunch. When she ran up to hug him hello, he noticed something missing from her smile! It seems her first lost tooth is lost indeed... it ended up being swallowed or fell out on the lunch table, and couldn't be found. Sis was disappointed that her tooth wouldn't be saved in her baby book, but that night before bed we wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy to explain the situation.

We placed the letter in an envelope, sealed it, and tucked it under Big Sister's pillow before she went to sleep. Lo and behold, Big Sister woke up the next morning and discovered the Tooth Fairy had left behind an envelope full of cash under her pillow! $2.00 cash specifically. Losing your first tooth is apparently a huge deal to the Tooth Fairy!

And, I know we said we wouldn't really 'do' the tooth fairy thing. Not promote, but not deny. We were going to simply celebrate with ice cream. I mean, having a winged creature sneak into your house and buy your dead teeth from you while you sleep is a little, if not very, creepy. But someone at school explained "The Tooth Fairy" to Big Sister before Hubby arrived on the scene. And when she looked at her Daddy with those big, sad brown eyes... thinking she would be excluded from the Tooth Fairy's nightly rounds simply because she lost her tooth, literally, well... we buckled. Caved. Totally. Bought her happiness with two crisp Washingtons. So we're in this one, for both girls I guess.

Yes, it's totally worth it. It all is.
