Happy Day of Love to You

Lauren Fleishman

We keep it pretty simple for Valentine's Day. No dinners out at a crowded restaurant, no grossly overpriced bouquets or large heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. We do, however, have a heart themed meal, and maybe bump a little Stevie Wonder for kitchen dancing.

Not sure we have the girls fully on board for this, but they'll learn to deal. Or grow-up thinking we're the lamest nerds ever.

This morning, Hubby got up early to make heart pancakes, bacon and orange juice for his girls. Isn't he a keeper? I joined him a few snooze buttons later to brew the coffee, dress the table with our prettiest linens, and put heart place settings out for our favorite little valentines. It was perfect.

Of course, we also take some time to reflect on our relationship, on just how much we love each other, and how fortunate our little family is to be here, happy, healthy and together. We sure are lucky, and we hope not to take it for granted too much.

P.S. Chick-flicks don't usually do it for this girl, unless you include those based on classic British literature (i.e. any and everything Jane Austen). But Time.com posted the sweetest feature on couples that have been together for at least 5 decades. That is what moves me to tears. You and your love should check it out.
