"M" is for Music

Big Sister has 'show-and-share' every Friday morning, with a focus on either a topic they studied recently or the letter of the week. Last week, her preschool class was studying music, making instruments, and learning lots of new songs. We asked Big Sis if she would like to bring her Daddy in for 'show-and-share,' and the way she was beaming at the supper table indicated a "yes."
Hubby brought in his sousaphone, and began his presentation by playing a few notes... (notice the boy covering his ears!)

A few children did recognize it as a type of tuba. Hubby talked a little about his job as a musician, the differences between his sousaphone and tuba, asked whether anyone played any instruments, asked what instruments they wanted to learn to play.... (Look at Big Sister in this picture--she was a little nervous up there!)

asked if anyone knew how much his sousaphone weighed, etc. One little boy volunteered to demonstrate how heavy it was!

Then, Hubby played a few familiar tunes, like Twinkle, Twinkle, The Alphabet Song, and Itsy, Bitsy Spider, while the children sang along.

Next, each of the kids picked up their instruments that they had made in class earlier that week, and formed a parade!

There was even a shaker for Little Sister.

The class followed Hubby around the courtyard, marching in their very own parade! Plenty of classes opened their doors and joined us in song.

It was a pretty special morning, for both Hubby and Big Sister. "T" is for Tuba, so perhaps there will be a repeat performance?
