The Honeymooners

Hubby organized and executed our entire honeymoon himself (Thank you, Hubby!!), with absolutely minimal input from me. In fact, I think the only idea I contributed was scheduling 'free time' for relaxing and spontaneity. Ironic? Such is the life of a list person. Or a mother.

After leaving the girls at Grandpa and Grandma's house in Phoenix, we drove to the Inn at 410 Bed & Breakfast in Flagstaff--back to where we met and fell in love for three wonderful days of honeymooning. A 'mini-moon,' if you will.

Now, not that we have much experience in this field seeing as how this honeymoon was our first, but without a doubt we would strongly recommend the honeymoon to every married couple out there. At least once per marriage. And we decided that if you continue to like each other, the 'mini-moon' should occur annually.

We've also discovered that, especially as parents of young children, when you get the chance to getaway it's all about the little luxuries. Nothing too fancy or exotic, just simple pleasures. For instance, while in Flagstaff, we got to...
  • sleep until 8am, then enjoy the free, gourmet breakfast (featured on a PBS episode) that we didn't cook or clean-up after
  • nap
  • take the scenic route and stop on the side of the road (often) to take pictures
  • dine at Pato Thai, or an equally ethnic restaurant, without a tote bag full of paper, crayons, books, plastic toys that will hopefully be lost, and PB&J's
  • speak directly to one another with eye contact; not talking over a short person banging their fork on the table while we're searching for the spoon they threw on the floor
  • play Battleship at The Wine Loft
  • finally, finally ride the lift at Arizona Snowbowl, complete with picnic lunch

It was truly a wonderful, amazing trip.

It's been a great five years of marriage, if we do say so ourselves. A happy, successful relationship between loving partners is definitely something to be celebrated, and we're thrilled to have been able to take a time out and give ours it's due diligence. And we sincerely hope to make the 'mini-moon' an annual thing, if possible. Because, among other benefits, one of the very best things we can provide for our children is a loving marriage and a happy home life.

Just another little something we discussed in all our time chatting and discussing while playing Battleship and eating gourmet chocolate chip cookies and sipping homemade cider and driving with the windows down listening to Johnny Cash and enjoying the leaves changing from the top of the world with the love of your life....
