Adding to our Family

We've been talking about getting a second doggie for a long time. Like, for months before we moved from Kentucky. But we knew it was in the best interest of our family, and sanity, to wait. Once we really settled into our new home here we made a list of specific qualities we wanted in a pup, and I began browsing Petfinder.com and all the local pet shelters in a 1.5 hour radius. And by browsing, I mean checking religiously every day and emailing hubby all the pictures of the cutest potentials. There were a lot of cute potentials, but mostly they were adopted before we could even set up an appointment to meet them.
Our list basically consisted of a younger dog, between 6 mos. to 4 years old, neutered/spayed, updated on shots, good health, gender unspecific, energetic, friendly, between 15-25 lbs., and good with kids and dogs. At the last minute we decided if given a choice we'd prefer a mix that didn't shed.
And then, as luck would have it, I found a listing for a pet adoption on Craigslist that met all our criteria. And the family adopting out the young pup lived on the street behind us! And their youngest daughter is in Big Sister's preschool class! We met the dog, fell in love, and spent a few afternoons getting to know him better before bringing him home to stay.
We feel really pleased we were able to adopt a dog from a good home (even though they could no longer keep him). If would have been great to adopt from and support a local shelter, though, but we will absolutely try that in the (distant) future.

Without further delay...
Meet Sampson!
He is a 7 mos. old Malti-Poo mix, and currently weighs in at 13lbs. He is super friendly, always smiling and greeting us with a kiss. Sampson likes Iams food, sleeping at your feet, having his belly rubbed and hair brushed, and going for long walks in the desert. He and Walter get along great, and enjoy tug of war with old socks, as well as playing fetch in the backyard. Between the two, Sampson does a much better job of returning the ball to be thrown again.

We are loving this little guy!
